We recently did.an overnight excursion to yala national park with beyond escapes,they answered any queries we had regarding the trip,and kept in touch throughout. We stayed in a tree house at leopards nest,basically glamping close to the main entrance of the national park. The food.was delicious, the staff went above and beyond. We were fortunate to see three elephants at close range,and also a leopard,amongst other wid animals. We used Beyond Escapes as a transfer service from Yala to Welligama. By far the most efficient company we used during our three weeks in Sri Lanka. Great friendly communication and attentive to our needs. Our driver Nalin was great and pointed out many interesting things enroute. I planned a return trip to Sri Lanka, my native country, after 50+ years. I had my husband, two sons and their partners with me. I didn't quite know what to expect from this trip. Beyond Escapes, after some initial communication difficulties, came through for me for a 10 day tour with hotels, car and a driver. They worked with me to adjust the itinerary to my needs, change the hotels as I requested and also pointed out some travel logistics related to air travel. From the initial pick up at the airport to everything in between, our driver Mr. Ceasor made it so relaxing, fun and exciting. First of all his English was excellent; his knowledge of the country, history and politics was helpful and interesting. He was always on time, but always relaxed with the “you are on holiday” attitude, so we were able to set our schedule as we went along. We’re foodies, and Mr. Ceasor’s access to the local food scene and restaurants was really wonderful, especially for those in our group who were native Sri Lankans! We loved the way Ceasor would stop at a local restaurant (at our request) and find us a table, order us all types of Sorties/Rotis, explain what was in each and let us dig in. We felt so much more relaxed and comfortable sampling the ‘real’ Sri Lanka than if we had tried doing this without Ceasor and Beyond Escapes. Also, this was our first time traveling with a tour company and driver – usually my husband and I rent a car and figure things out as we go. But we are so glad we chose to hire Beyond Escapes and Ceasor – they really made the trip so much easier, relaxing and incredibly fun. So, if you are looking for a stress free first time experience in Sri Lanka, I highly recommend Beyond Escapes and especially Mr. Ceasor for a fabulous time. It pains me to say that the level of frustration and discontent among the passengers is palpable, and it is directly attributable to the abysmal time management practices employed by your company. From the outset, it was evident that schedules were merely suggestions rather than commitments. Delays were not just occasional occurrences but rather the norm, leading to missed opportunities, shortened excursions, and a general sense of disarray among the travelers. The lack of punctuality not only disrupted our plans but also soured the entire experience, as we were constantly left waiting with no clear explanation or apology. Furthermore, these time management issues have not only inconvenienced us but have also sparked significant unrest among the passengers. Strikes and protests have become commonplace as frustrations reach a boiling point. It is disheartening to witness the discord and animosity that have arisen due to your company's failure to effectively manage time. As customers, we expect a level of professionalism and reliability that sadly seems to be lacking in your operations. Time is precious, especially when traveling, and it is unacceptable to squander it so recklessly. I implore you to take swift and decisive action to rectify these issues before further damage is done to your reputation and the satisfaction of your customers. The cost for the lunch should not force us too pay...we were late because of your guide...so we could not eat ... we were rushed to the ship...very poor management I didn't want to pay for a meal I did not eat ....I suggest not too use this tour!!! Good Tour Operator | Recommended, But Be Careful ——— Detailed Review Below ——— Beyond Escapes is a Sri Lankan tour operator that offers a large array of tours across the island nation - from day tours to multi-day tours. We engaged them for a 2-day tour from Colombo to Nuwura Eliya and Kandy. Here are the pros and cons + Knowledgeable guide - safe driver and knowledgeable about the culture, tradition, trees, fruits, and animals of the island. Managed to keep us engaged and listening throughout the drive. + Small but comfortable car - Their guides are basically drivers who can speak English; knowledge of the country is secondary. Our guide knew a lot about the culture and vegetation but knew nothing about the history. -Be sceptical of their choice of “tourist attractions.” The ones they take you to is probably driven by the percentage of sale they will likely get. We were taken to a “gem museum” which was actually just a commercial jeweler. The “spice museum” they took us to was basically a sales outlet for ayurvedic preparations. -Double check the hotels they take you to - they will find the cheapest option and stick you there. From the hotel to the attractions they chose for us, most were commercial entities of the Oak Ray group, leading me to suspect they were just a front for that group. If I were to engage them again, I would have to book the hotel and tourist attractions myself and let them do the driving - which btw kills the whole point of engaging a travel operator. Posting a few pictures of our visit to show all the beautiful sites we were able to visit because of this agency (its limitations aside), for which we will be eternally grateful.
